Compliance
USF is fully committed to adhering to all NCAA bylaws and American Athletic Conference (AAC) policies. USF is responsible for the conduct of any individual or organization affiliated with USF Athletics.
As a donor to USF Athletics and/or a member of the Bulls Club, you are considered a representative of USF Athletics' interests - a "booster" by the NCAA; thus, you are responsible for adhering to all NCAA bylaws. The NCAA defines a "booster" in a number of ways, including anyone who has ever made a financial contribution to the Bulls or purchased tickets for a USF event. In order to assure that USF Athletics upholds the integrity of NCAA and AAC policies designed to promote a fair and sportsmanlike college sports environment, we ask that you - as a member of the Bulls family - take the time to acquaint yourself with this important information. If you have questions, please consult the USF Athletics Compliance Office.
Please remember, recruiting is the responsibility of USF coaching staff members. It is not permissible for you to recruit on behalf of USF Athletics (e.g., call, write, evaluate, or contact). Any questions that you receive from a prospective student-athlete regarding the athletics program must be directed to the respective coaching staff of the USF Athletics Compliance Office.
Any violation of the rules and regulations of the NCAA or AAC and your privileges and benefits as a booster/donor will be terminated. As part of the USF Family, we ask you to join our efforts in maintaining the success and atmosphere of compliance of our athletic programs.
What Does "Extra Benefit" Mean?
An extra benefit is anything that is provided by a staff member or booster to a student-athlete, his or her family and friends that is not provided to the general student body under the same terms. Providing anything considered to be an extra benefit to a Bulls student-athlete can jeopardize his or her eligibility to compete and put USF Athletics at risk for penalties. Some common examples of extra benefit include:
- Cash, loans, or gifts of any kind, including tickets to entertainment events
- Free or reduced cost meals and beverages
- Free or reduced services
- Free lodging or rental property at a reduced rate
What are the General Rules Regarding Recruiting and Boosters?
Boosters are prohibited from involvement in recruiting prospective student-athletes. A prospective student-athlete is anyone who has started seventh grade classes for men's basketball, or ninth grade classes for all other sports. Boosters should contact USF Athletics staff about any questions in this regard, and refrain from attempting to contact any prospect or to influence his or her decision to attend USF. Such contact includes activity on Facebook, Twitter or other social networking sites.
Please feel free to contact the USF Athletics Compliance Office at (813) 974-1426 and visit the Compliance website if you have any questions regarding NCAA bylaws.
Always remember "Ask Before You Act."
